FLORENCE, S.C. - AVM Industries in Marion plans to layoff 130 employees in January.
AVM, which makes gas springs for the automotive industry, told employees in a letter Friday that the layoffs were due to the loss of a contract with automaker Chrysler. The letter says the contract represents 30 percent of AVM's business.
AVM also reported laying off 35 employees in October, according to the Employment Security Commission's Web site.
It was just more bad news for Marion County, which historically has had a higher-than-average unemployment rate and has seen the loss recently of several large employers.
Also next year, Hanesbrands will cease operation in Marion County and lay off about 145 people by the end of February.
