NEW YORK - AOL, Time Warner Inc.'s Internet unit, plans to cut 1,800 jobs at three call centers as the number of subscribers to its Web access service declines.
Call centers in Albuquerque, N.M., and Tucson, Ariz., will be closed, eliminating 1,400 jobs, said Nicholas Graham, a spokesman for Dulles, Va.-based AOL.
Also, AOL is in talks to shift 400 workers at its Ogden, Utah, call center to another company.
The reductions are part of a plan to cut 5,000 jobs by the end of the year, a decision announced by AOL Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Miller in August.
