DAVENPORT, IA - Today Alcoa announced plans to reduce its workforce at its Davenport Works plant by 250 to 275 employees.

The layoffs are a result of a decline in the companies business. The company is reporting that orders from customers continue to be down.

Alcoa will meet with union leaders and offer voluntary packages before a final number is reached. The company says it could take a couple of weeks before an exact number is known.

At the end of February 197 workers were laid off. During that time 72 workers took advantage of a voluntary layoff package. Their last day on the job was April 1.
