As Congress continues to hash out differences over the economic stimulus package, the White House has begun the process of promoting President Barack Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan, a program that aims to create 3 million to 4 million new American jobs during the next two years, the White House said.

The Lone Star state is a big part of the plan, with a new White House report indicating that the plan will create 286,000 jobs in Texas alone.

Industries singled out as major beneficiaries include the clean energy sector, as well as the health care industry. About 90 percent of the jobs will be created in the private sector, the White House said.

Other large U.S. states -- California, Florida, Illinois and Michigan -- will benefit from the addition of 100,000-plus jobs, the report says.

On the West Coast, California is slated to benefit from the creation of 421,000 jobs. Meanwhile, in the Southeast, 218,000 jobs will be created in Florida. Illinois and Michigan are expected to benefit from 158,000 and 116,000 jobs, respectively. The report says the job creation estimates are tentative at this point.
