Wachovia Bank is expanding its presence in the San Antonio market by bringing more than 300 new jobs to the city.
Wachovia Bank, the principal operating subsidiary of Charlotte, N.C.-based Wachovia Corp. (NYSE: WB), is expanding its 24-hour telephone banking-service contact center.
The new positions will be added to the Wiseman Boulevard Operations Center, which Wachovia acquired as part of its 2006 merger with Golden West Financial Corp. Golden West is the parent company of World Savings Bank.
Wachovia first entered the Texas market in December 2004.
Mark Metcalfe, Wachovia's market president for San Antonio, says the Wiseman campus already is home to more than 3,000 employees. The facility was started by World Savings in 1993 to be the operations center for its nationwide banking network.
"Wachovia has been the fastest-growing bank in San Antonio, and Texas, for the past two years," Metcalfe says. "This latest expansion is another example of our continued growth as well as our commitment to be a great bank and a great neighbor."
Wachovia will place a strong emphasis on recruiting bilingual job candidates to assist Spanish-speaking customers. The company will begin interviewing for the first phase of hiring, which will consist of 80 new positions, this month. These new employees should be in place by the second quarter of 2007.
Wachovia's contact centers provide banking services 24 hours a day to customers who call 1-800-WACHOVIA. The company has 12 contact centers in eight states. Together, these facilities handle more than 200 million calls a year.
Wachovia provides banking and brokerage, asset and wealth management, and corporate and investing banking products and services. The company has 160 financial centers in Texas and plans to add up to 50 new centers and 1,000 new employees per year in Texas through 2008.
