RALEIGH, N.C. - Food company Vantage Foods Inc. will create 183 jobs and invest $21.1 million over three years at a meat processing plant in Caldwell County, officials said Friday.

The company will receive a $360,000 grant if it meets its job creation goals, according to the office of Gov. Mike Easley.

Vantage, headquartered in Calgary, Canada, plans to open a meat cutting and processing facility in Lenoir by mid-2007. The average weekly wage will be $475.

"North Carolina was selected as the location for this state-of-the-art facility due to the state's proactive business environment in assisting businesses through their government programs and the availability of an attractive workforce," Leonal Kilgore, president of Vantage Foods U.S., said in a statement.
