United Tech's Pratt Unit Cutting 200 JobsReuters
June 24, 2009
BOSTON - Diversified manufacturer United Technologies Corp's (UTX.N) Pratt & Whitney jet engine unit said on Wednesday that it was laying off 200 workers, mostly in Connecticut.
The cuts are part of United Technologies' plan, disclosed in March, to cut 11,600 jobs, representing 5 percent of its total corporate workforce, as it scrambles to cope with a brutal recession.
"It is clear that this is not a short-term economic downturn," Pratt spokesman Matthew Perra said. "Engine orders, as well as maintenance, repair and overhaul activities, are lower, requiring us to make difficult decisions."
