January 14, 2007
Union Pacific, the Omaha-based railroad company, wants you.
The nation's largest freight carrier sent 2,000 postcards to Iowans last week advertising for train crew openings. The company says the jobs start around $40,000 a year and can climb to more than $75,000 as workers gain the training needed to become conductors and engineers.
Union Pacific has said it will hire about 6,000 new employees this year. Overall, the rail industry has said increased demand and retiring baby boomers will create a need for more than 80,000 workers in the next six years. For information, go to www.UnionPacific.jobs.
