SuperValu Inc. is moving some office support jobs from its Xenia distribution center to other facilities in Minnesota and Virginia, the company confirmed Friday.
There are 200 office workers at the center, but the company said it won't be moving all of the jobs and doesn't know how many workers will be impacted. Workers at the Xenia facility were notified Friday and the move is expected to be completed this summer.
"Some office positions will remain intact - particularly in the areas of marketing, market development and retail technology. Other staff positions may change, relocate or be reduced by this transition in support functions ... like human resources and information technology," according to a statement from SuperValu.
The Ohio Valley Distribution Center, as the facility is known, had about 280 total workers as of mid-2007. The distribution function won't be affected by the moves, according to the company.
The office workers at the center will be offered the opportunity to move and take jobs at the other locations.
The changes are being made as part of a realignment of some of its regional operations and will allow it to "best take advantage of the broad geographic reach of the company."
"As with all of its major business initiatives, SuperValu made this decision after careful consideration. Ultimately, the discussion was guided by what was best for the company's ability to continue to serve customers better than anyone else can," according to the statement.
