Parker Hannifin Corp. says it will close two Wayne County manufacturing facilities by the end of the year. The decision will leave 230 people out of work.

The two plants – part of the Mobile Climate Systems Division of Parker Hannifin – are located in Lyons and have been open since 1963.

“This was a difficult decision and in no way reflects upon the performance of our dedicated employees here,” said Tom Healy, president of Parker’s Climate and Industrial Controls Group.

Citing increased competition from Asia and technological developments that have made some of their product lines obsolete, the Cleveland-based company said it will sell or close two of the four product lines currently manufactured at its Lyons facilities.

The two facilities, located at 100 Dunn Road and 15 Depew Ave. in Lyons, manufacture air conditioning and drying equipment for heavy truck, construction, and agricultural markets.

Parker Hannifin said all employees will receive severance and extended medical benefits.
