Atlanta Business Chronicle

September 5, 2008

Panasonic Automotive Systems Co.’s Peachtree City, Ga., manufacturing plant is being shut down and shifted to a plant in Reynosa, Mexico, according to the company.

The consolidation will cost 500 local workers their jobs. The shuttering starts in early 2009 and is expected to be finished by the end of 2009, according to company spokesman Jim Reilly.

However, 600 jobs will remain in Peachtree City, where the company has had operations since 1987. Panasonic will keep the city, south of Atlanta, as its regional headquarters and will keep functions such as product design/development and sales.

Panasonic Automotive Systems is a supplier to nearly all major auto companies and to top-tier automotive component companies. It makes automotive entertainment and information systems.
