October 23, 2009
MANCHESTER, Ky. - An eastern Kentucky city where the poverty rate is three times the national average is in line for hundreds of new jobs after landing a factory that will recycle household garbage.
Manchester Mayor Carmen Webb Lewis says his town is excited over the news that the WNT LLC plant expects to have more than 1,400 jobs at full capacity. The company said hourly pay would range from $10 to $20.
The Lexington Herald-Leader says Lewis released a letter dated Thursday from WNT that said the company is committed to building the plant. Company spokesman Tommy Harrison told the newspaper the project would go forward.
The plant will recycle garbage into such materials as building components.
The state approved WNT for up to $42 million in tax incentives.
WNT is owned by Global Green Holdings LLC of Destin, Fla.
