Some distressing economic news for the city of Dixon, Illinois. Two hundred eleven employees at the Johnson Controls Plant will lose their jobs. The plant will close by the end of October.
Employees make industrial refrigeration equipment for the food and beverage industry. The company says orders for air handling units are down significantly.
Many of the people who work at the plant are from surrounding communities. The losses will have a huge impact on the area economy.
City officials say they did not anticipate this news, especially since the plant expanded a few years ago. The jobs will be phased out.
No word on what will happen to the building.
Johnson Controls' headquarters are in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
