COLUMBIA, TN — More than 600 auto supplier jobs will be lost in Maury County when General Motors Co. idles its Spring Hill factory in November.

The Tennessee Department of Labor reports this week that Penske Logistics of Spring Hill will lay off 300 employees and Johnson Controls Inc. of Columbia will release 343 employees as of Nov. 25.

Penske provides distribution and supply services to the GM plant and Johnson Controls builds seats and interior consoles.

Maury Alliance president Frank Tamberrino tells The Daily Herald the job losses are tied to GM's decision to move production of the Chevrolet Traverse crossover SUV from Spring Hill to Delta Township near Lansing, Mich.

A portion of the 2,500-employee Spring Hill plant will continue to supply parts for other factories.
