The latest Job Vacancy Survey from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development shows that in West Central Minnesota there are 5,900 job seekers competing for 1,600 unfilled jobs.
This means that job seekers now outnumber job openings by more than three and a half to one.
In comparing the current survey to the one from two years ago, we find that job seekers are up 32 percent and job openings are down 24 percent.

* More than half (55 percent) of all openings are part-time.
* About three-quarters (77 percent) require no education or training beyond high school.
The median wage for West Central Minnesota job openings is $8.00 per hour. JOBS NOW’s updated Cost of Living research shows that in a West Central Minnesota family of four with both parents working, each worker must earn at least $11.19 per hour to meet basic needs.
