Greater Miami’s leisure and hospitality industry employment was stable in August. The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau reported that an average of 101,500 people were employed in the sector in August 2009, down just 1 percent from 102,600 during the same period last year.
Hotel occupancy in Miami-Dade and Broward counties was up in the earlier part of September, according to Smith Travel Research.
For the week ended Sept. 12, occupancy in Miami-Dade County was 51.4 percent, up from 51.1 percent at the same time last year. Occupancy in Broward was 46.5 percent, up from 44.8 percent last year, while Palm Beach County saw a slight drop in occupancy , falling to 40.2 percent from 40.6 percent last year.
