Middle Tennessee’s manufacturing sector is getting a shot in the arm from a new contract to manufacture LED bulbs.
Murfreesboro-based Davis Groupe will make the energy-efficient LED (light-emitting diode) bulbs at its Middle Tennessee plants, creating 100 to 200 jobs in its first phase, according to Davis Groupe spokesman Jeff Ames.
Davis is historically a supplier to the automotive industry, including Nissan and Toyota, and had cut its staff — which had been around 50 people — by more than 80 percent in the past year. Ames says the company plans to hire back laid-off workers for the first positions to be filled.
The group will be manufacturing the particular variety of LED created by Vancouver, Wash.-based NCS Power Inc., and the project will be done under the banner of Clarksville-based Aladdin Mantle Lamp Co.
The companies plan to use Davis' existing facilities in Murfreesboro, La Vergne, Lewisburg, Goodlettsville and Tulahoma to make the new product.
