Nestle Jobs Attract Thousands Of Applicants

Anderson - It's a sweet deal for Anderson as Nestle, the city's newest employer, starts pitching hundreds of jobs to prospective employees. The company begins filling 300 jobs this summer through the first of the year. Nestle has its pick of employees from thousands of applicants.

Lining up at 6:00 am Friday morning, hundreds of prospective Nestle employees came to hear the company's pitch, from pay to benefits to the jobs available. Thousands expected to apply for 300 jobs at the new plant in Anderson.

"Some of the things you hear about Nestle, like taking care of their employees, good benefits and steady work schedule, you want to get a good job so you're going to go looking," said John Hopkins, job applicant.

When complete, Nestle's nearly $360 million Anderson plant will make ready-to-drink milk products and CoffeeMate creamer. The world's largest food company opens its first production line between April and June of next year, hiring employees in three stages beginning in a month or two.

"We have the traditional factory jobs, skilled trades and production. We also have salaried openings we're trying to fill," said Michael Strong, Nestle plant manager.

Also attending the informational job sessions are former Anderson auto workers hoping to land jobs paying from $16.50 to $24 per hour plus benefits.

"I worked at Guide corporation and Nestle is a great start for Anderson. I believe that," said Keith Stigler, job applicant.

For the thousands hoping to land a job at the new plant, only 300 will be chosen. Hundreds of former UAW workers counting on their automotive skills to start a new career with Nestle.
