Expedia.com Planning to Move Call Center Jobs Out of Las VegasAssociated Press
August 18, 2004
LAS VEGAS Internet travel service Expedia-dot-com is going to move 100 call center jobs out of Las Vegas to Tacoma, Washington and Miami.
The company says it'll keep some jobs in Las Vegas for accounting and employee travel services.
But most of the jobs at its Summerlin call center will be phased out over the next nine months.
The company says the cost of wages and salaries makes the move necessary.
The Nevada Development Authority says the hourly rate for call centers in southern Nevada generally runs between ten-dollars and 18-dollars an hour, plus benefits.
Authority executive Somer Hollingsworth says other call centers are coming in -- and says he hopes they might hire some of the workers Expedia is letting go.
