OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Sprint Corp. has eliminated 300 jobs from its local telephone division, which reported a decline in revenues last week.
About half the jobs are at a call center in Las Vegas, Sprint said Tuesday. The rest are scattered throughout the company's 18-state local phone territory. A company spokeswoman, Jennifer Bosshardt, declined to specify the number of job cuts in the Kansas City area.
During the past three years, Overland Park-based Sprint has cut more than 26,000 workers from its payroll. Its local telephone division reported declining sales and a continuing drop in local access lines last week, which led to the newest layoffs.
The affected employees will be eligible for severance benefits.
Sprint shares rose 34 cents, or 1.7 percent, to close at $20.97 Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange, near their high of the past 52 weeks, $21.03.
