GM To Invest $100 Million In NY Plant, Retain 150 JobsDow Jones Newswires

General Motors Corp. (GM) will invest $100 million in its Tonawanda, N.Y., engine plant, retaining about 150 hourly jobs.
The investment is for the production of a new high-output diesel engine and will include a 200,000-square-foot facility renovation, as well as new machinery, equipment and tooling.
The Detroit automobile manufacturer said it will invest an additional $41 million at other locations as necessary to support the Tonawanda operations.
Renovations should begin later this year, and production of the new diesel engine is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2009.
Shares of General Motors were up 69 cents, or 2.1%, at $34.29, in recent trading.
