As part of a restructuring of its parent company, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma says it will eliminate 200 positions in Tulsa over the next six months.
Chicago-based Health Care Service Corp. announced Wednesday plans to shed 650 jobs as it prepares for the expected adoption of health care reforms. The company operates Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
The Federal Employee Health Benefits Program operations in Tulsa are included in the restructuring. Some of the administrative support positions from that program will be relocated to Abilene, Texas.
Employees were notified of the restructuring Tuesday morning. Blue Cross and Blue Shield employs 1,200 in Tulsa and 100 in Oklahoma City.
