Fiskars Brands has announced plans to cut 300 jobs as it prepares to close two central Wisconsin facilities in 2007.

The job cuts in Wausau and Spencer plants are scheduled to begin in September. The jobs will be transferred abroad, the company said.

"For those affected by the change, we understand it will be a difficult time and we intend to provide a wide range of support services," said Bill Nee, Fiskars senior vice president of human resources, in a news release. Employees will also be given a severance package.

The company, which makes such consumer products as garden shears and scissors, will continue to operate its Wausau distribution center and other Wisconsin operations, including its Fiskars Brands division based in Madison. Fiskars Corp. is headquartered in Finland. - Nathan Leaf
