LaserShield Systems Inc., a new security systems company, will move its distribution facility from California to Las Cruces and customer service center to "The City of the Crosses" adding 140 new jobs to the area.

On Wednesday, city leaders gathered at the customer service center to welcome the new company.

"It's probably something that the west mesa has been waiting for a long time: the infrastructure, the jack-rabbit interchange and affordable housing. We're going to see quite a nice growth stage happening on the west mesa," said Mayor Bill Mattiace.

The distribution facility will add 80 new jobs and invest $20 million in infrastructure, equipment and inventory. However, before it's built, the company must apply as a Foreign Trade Zone to distribute products manufactured in China.
