Chrysler To Shut Plant In Ohio, Cutting 1,200 JobsThe Associated Press
May 1, 2009
TWINSBURG, OH — Chrysler's plan to close a factory near Cleveland will cost the town of Twinsburg its biggest employer.
Documents filed Friday in the automaker's bankruptcy case show the Twinsburg plant is one of five more plants scheduled to close by the end of 2010.
The Twinsburg stamping plant has about 1,200 workers.
Twinsburg Mayor Katherine Procop says she had been told by Chrysler executives during a conference call Thursday that the plant was going to be OK in the short term.
She says the news is disheartening for the city.
Meanwhile, workers at Chrysler's assembly plant in Toledo have been told production there will stop Monday until further notice.
