The Chicago Transit Authority plans to cut more than 70 jobs as part of efforts to save more than $50 million from next year's budget.
CTA president Richard Rodriguez announced the job cuts on Wednesday. He says they will affect management and office positions, not bus drivers, train operators or mechanics. The job cuts will come next year.
Officials with the CTA are working on a proposed budget for 2011. Rodriguez says there are about $53.6 million in savings planned in the budget. That includes money saved from job cuts, limits on overtime pay, delays in hiring and wage freezes.
Rodriguez says he wants to avoid any service disruptions next year.
