LANCASTER, OH – The new year is poised to begin well for the economy in the Fairfield County seat with the creation of 220 full-time jobs at a new call center, city Economic Development Director Mike Pettit said yesterday.

Global Contact Services, a teleservice company based in Salisbury, N.C., that serves insurance, financial and other industries, plans to open an office here soon, likely within the next three or four months, Pettit said.

"We’re working on a building or site for them," he said. "The community wants jobs and we’re excited."

Pettit did not know what the call-center jobs would pay, and no one answered the phone yesterday at company headquarters.

But similar jobs at the company’s other call centers pay an hourly wage that ranges from $7.50 to $13.50, plus benefits, according to the company’s Web site.

Besides Salisbury, N.C., the company has three call centers in West Virginia, two in Virginia and one in Texas, according to the site.
