Chicago-based CDW Corp., a leading provider of technology products and services, is expanding to Chandler Airpark, bringing 450 well-paying jobs.
The company will lease nearly 70,000 square feet in space southwest of the Santan Freeway and Cooper Road.
CDW's customers are businesses, government and education. It's a principal source of technology products and services including name brands such as Adobe, Apple, Cisco, HP, Microsoft and Sony.
This week CDW was ranked first on Fortune magazine's 2008 List of Most Admired Companies in Wholesales: Electronics.
"It's a company that attracts the financial and computer majors right out of college," said Dave Bigos, a Chandler city spokesman.
Chandler had been in competition with Scottsdale for the company, he said.
"It will not be too long before they start hiring and moving bodies in there," Bigos said.
The lease was expected to have been signed Friday.
The City Council on Thursday approved a development agreement among the city, builder Opus West and CDW, under which the city will reimburse building and impact fees to CDW through Opus of up to $479,703.
In addition, after Cooper Road construction in the area is finished, the city will reimburse Opus at least $70,000 in arterial street impact fees.
CDW will occupy Opus' existing building at 1850 E. Northrop Blvd. in the development called Chandler Airport Center.
CDW will initially occupy 46,872 square feet as soon as tenant improvements are finished.
Around Dec. 1, 2009, the company will occupy the second phase of an additional 22,362 square feet for a total occupancy of 69,234 square feet.
CDW, based in Vernon Hills, Ill., is ranked No. 342 on the 2007 Fortune 500 and No. 39 on Forbes magazines' list of America's largest private companies.
CDW was founded in 1984 and as of Dec. 31, 2007, employed 6,300 workers. In 2007, the company generated sales of $8.1 billion.
