BATESVILLE, Ark. - A heating and air company is to open a manufacturing facility in Batesville that is to employ nearly 400 people.

Emerson Climate Technologies announced Wednesday it will convert a property to house a compressor plant. The company said demand is rising for its Copeland Scroll compressors, which are used for refrigeration and have fewer moving parts.

The plant will be at a site that was formerly occupied by Emerson's White-Rodgers operation.

Emerson said expanding in Batesville will help it remain competitive and meet the needs of its customers. The plant is expected to have 390 workers within its first six years, the company said. Emerson says it wants to be able to start production in 2010.
