1,000 Construction Jobs Lost In El Paso

EL PASO - Construction employment declined in 324 of 337, or 96 percent of, metro areas in the United States since August 2008, including in El Paso, a report released Wednesday by The Associated General Contractors of America shows.

El Paso lost an estimated 1,000 construction jobs between August 2008 and August 2009, for a 6 percent decline, according to federal data compiled by the contractors group. The percentage decline ranked El Paso as the 59th best market for construction employment for the 12-month period.

Las Cruces lost 700 jobs, a 16 percent decline, ranking 246th. The Reno, Nev., area's 35 percent decline was the worst. That area lost 5,900 construction jobs.
