Verizon wants to add 100 new consumer sales consultants to its downtown sales center on Zack Street in Tampa.

The company also plans to train more than 400 additional fiber technicians for the region to support Verizon network and customer service teams, the company said in a release.

It attributed the effort to increased demand for its Internet and TV services.

Salaries for the positions range from $10 to $16 an hour based on relevant sales experience, the company said.

At the end of 2006, Verizon had 7 million broadband customers nationally, including 687,000 FiOS Internet customers, the company said. The total represents an overall increase of 35.7 percent compared with year-end 2005, according to the release.

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ), headquartered in New York, delivers broadband and other wireline and wireless communication services. Verizon has a workforce of roughly 242,000 and generated consolidated operating revenues of more than $88 billion in 2006, it said.
