In the midst of a painful recession, one Duluth employer is adding people to its payroll over the next few weeks.
UnitedHealthcare is in the process of hiring 40 full-time employees to work as claims processors at its Rice Lake Road office in Duluth. The new claims processors will work in one of the company’s growing sectors: flexible spending accounts in the consumer-driven health-products division.
A flexible spending account allows employees to set aside earnings to pay for medical expenses.
“This is a product the community has embraced,” said Tim Mattson, a claims site director with UnitedHealthcare. “We’ve had an increase in membership and had to staff accordingly.”
The hiring is being carried out in two phases: 25 new claims processors will begin work April 20, and 15 more will start May 11. The first 25 positions already have been filled, but the remaining 15 are being recruited now.
