PHARR — Good news for Rio Grande Valley residents looking for work: The local Convergys call center plans on hiring 500 new workers.
The company is inviting employee hopefuls to attend a job fair 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at its site at 500 N. Jackson Road.
The addition of 500 new employees will bring the total headcount to 2,000 Convergys workers at the company's two sites in Pharr.
The round of hiring should be welcome news for residents of Greater McAllen, which had a 9.6 percent unemployment rate in February, the highest in the state.
The new employees will provide customer support for clients in the entertainment and telecommunications industries.
The jobs pay a starting wage of $7.50 per hour and flexible scheduling is available all days of the week.
Employees are also eligible for insurance after 60 days of employment, and Convergys offers a tuition reimbursement program.
Candidates should have previous sales and customer service experience and the ability to work flexible hours, according to the company.
