Oshkosh Corp. said Tuesday that it will hire between 300 and 500 new employees for its defense plants in Wisconsin as part of a boost in employment needed to help it fulfill a $1.05 billion military contract.
The Oshkosh-based specialty truck manufacturer is also recalling 550 to 650 employees at its JLG subsidiary, primarily in Pennsylvania, to help produce 2,244 mine-resistant, all-terrain vehicles (M-ATV) for the U.S. Army. Urgent deliveries of the vehicles are expected to begin this month.
Newly hired Wisconsin employees will work in Oshkosh, where the company has four factories in its defense division. The recalled JLG workers will work primarily in Pennsylvania.
"We are using the combined resources of Oshkosh Corp. to ensure that our brave warfighters will have highly mobile, durable and survivable vehicles waiting for them when they arrive in Afghanistan," said Robert Bohn, Oshkosh (NYSE: OSK) chairman and CEO. "Adding new employees to our Oshkosh Defense employment base and calling back skilled JLG employees at our underutilized JLG facilities will maximize our manufacturing operations and accelerate our M-ATV delivery schedule."
