BOISE, Idaho - Hewlett-Packard Co. plans to limit hiring and temporarily suspend salary increases for employees, according to a statement from the company this week.

The Idaho Business Review reports the company did not release details on the plan or how it would affect employees working at its imaging and printing division in Boise.

HP has 320,000 employees and 3,000 were in the Idaho division before staffing cuts were announced earlier this year.

In a statement this week, the company says "we believe it is prudent and responsible to reduce costs where possible."

HP officials say they are committed to rewarding "high-performing" employees with compensation.

In July, Hewlett-Packard Co. said it would cut 14,500 jobs and trim its global work force by 10%. HP did not specify where jobs would be lost.
