CORPUS CHRISTI - October is "National Hire Disabled People Month", so local officials want to help area businesses learn more about how to work with those individuals.

That's why this Tuesday employers can attend a first ever seminar dealing with a variety of issues, like legal aspects of the disabled, training for those businesses and clearing up some myths about the disabled. Organizers said the disabled are actually a big part of the work force. An estimated 21 percent of the population has a some sort of disability.

"People are looking at an aging work force that leaving the work place and we need to look and say this is another option to replace the departing employees," said City of Corpus Christi HR Director Leon Bazar.

That seminar will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Ortiz Center. To pre-register call 878-1225. There is no charge for the event.
