WARNER ROBINS - Dozens of people are lobbying for a job this week for the new Hobby Lobby store expected to open soon.

The store is taking applications through Friday at the Jameson Inn on Watson Boulevard.

The tentative opening date for the store - and manager Joe Ganas stressed the "tentative" part of that - is Sept. 18. If that doesn't turn out to be the opening date, he said he expects it will come very soon afterward.

About 75 people are being hired for the store set-up, and 30 to 35 full- and part-time workers are being hired on a permanent basis, Ganas said. Set-up is expected to commence around Sept. 1.

The store is located on Watson Boulevard next to Target.

Founded in 1972, Hobby Lobby has 378 stores in 29 states. The store's offerings include crafts, hobbies, picture framing, jewelry making, fashion fabrics, floral, cards, party items, baskets, wearable art, home accents and holiday supplies.

Robin Thomas of Fort Valley was there Tuesday applying for a part-time job.

"I like arts and crafts and they seemed like a good company to work for," she said.

Ganas said about 30 applicants showed up Monday, and he expects another 30 to apply through the rest of the week.

Ganas is from Valdosta, where he managed a Hobby Lobby over the past year. He previously worked 23 years for Winn-Dixie grocery stores, and was part of the company's downsizing cuts.

"The Lord blessed me and led me here," he said.
