Dell Computer has begun recruiting for the first 200 production jobs at its much-anticipated Winston-Salem plant. The factory, which will open later this year and eventually employ 1,500, was lured to North Carolina by more than $270 million in state and local incentives.

If you want a crack at those jobs, now's your chance. Dell's classified advertisements are to run in Sunday's papers. Here's the lowdown:

Jobs: Building computers to order. The job can be physical: "must be able to stand, lift, push, reach, and pull for extended periods of time." In addition, you must be willing to go to Texas or Tennessee for at least four weeks of training, according to Dell.

Pay: $9.50-$14 an hour, based on experience. Candidates must be flexible to work overtime and weekends, Dell says.

How to apply: Starting Sunday, you can apply on the Internet at www.ncjoblinkdell.com.

If you prefer, you can use the Internet at JobLink Career Centers in these counties: Davie, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin. The offices will be open extended hours from Monday through Saturday. Call your local office for details.
