February 24, 2004
Vought Aircraft Industries Inc., a Dallas-based aerospace company, plans to hire about 3,000 people -- nearly doubling its local work force -- for work on new contracts it hopes to secure, according to reports.
The company, which manufactures parts for commercial and military aircraft, now employs about 2,930 workers at its headquarters in Dallas and another 340 at a facility in Grand Prairie.
An announcement by the company about its hiring plans in expected Thursday, according to reports. The move would provide a much-needed boost to the North Texas economy, which has seen many job losses in recent years.
Vought, which is owned by Washington, D.C.-based private equity firm The Carlyle Group, hopes to shut a Nashville-area plant, where it employs about 1,030, as it hires more workers and consolidates jobs in the Dallas area.
