San Antonio-based SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE: SBC) has been recognized by two leading research organizations for its commitment to hiring women executives and offering "women-friendly" benefit packages.
The Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania released its third annual report on women leaders in communications companies.
The report ranks SBC as one of the top companies for women in executive leadership and places SBC at the top of the list for human resource benefits for women. In addition, SBC has the greatest number of women on the board of directors out of all communications companies surveyed.
Furthermore, Catalyst, another leading research and advisory organization working to advance women in business, released its national 2003 Census of Women Board Directors of the Fortune 500.
Catalyst also highlighted SBC for having six women on its board, which represents 29 percent of the board.

Whitacre Jr. "As a result, we are extremely pleased that SBC has received recognition from highly reputable organizations for our efforts in this arena."
Women make up 47 percent of the total SBC work force and women represent 30 percent of the company's senior managers and corporate officers.
