(Salamanca) -- The Seneca Nation of Indians has begun the process of hiring hundreds of people to work at the tribe's new casino in western New York.

The tribe is holding job fairs for tribe members this week and next at its two reservations in Salamanca in Cattaraugus County and Irving, 20 miles southwest of Buffalo.

The Senecas will build their second casino in Salamanca. The tribe already operates a casino in Niagara Falls.

Tribal officials said they intend to hire about 800 people for the Salamanca casino, which is scheduled to open in April.

Jobs to be filled include cashiers, managers, casino accountants and computer technicians.

Seneca officials said the casino is also likely to spur business development in an economically ailing part of upstate New York.

A job fair for the general public is planned for a later date.
