Northwest Hiring Reservation Agents

EAGAN, Minn. - Northwest Airlines is holding open houses in the Twin Cities this week as it prepares to add 200 employees at its reservation centers in Chisholm and Minneapolis.

The Eagan-based airline, which has cut its work force by about 14,000 since early 2001, will be screening applicants who are interested in working for $11.74 an hour as reservation sales agents.

The new Minnesota jobs are part of the fallout from Northwest's decision to close its reservation center in the Detroit area. The center, which employs 567 people, will shut down in December and Northwest will consolidate operations in five remaining centers, including two in Minnesota.

Spokesman Kurt Ebenhoch said the 100 jobs in Chisholm and 100 jobs in Minneapolis will be filled by a combination of new hires and transfers from Detroit.

Northwest will consider only applicants who call 1-800-692-4146 to register for an information and testing session. The airline requires that applicants submit to background checks and drug screening. The open houses began Monday and run through Thursday.
