Behind The Numbers: Hospitality HiringBy Christine L. Romero Arizona Republic
October 12, 2003
A September hospitality job fair, seeking seasonal workers, lured more applicants than have been seen in recent years, said Patti Rosenberg, president of the Arizona Hospitality Human Resources Association. She saw more people coming from other industries needing work.
The state's 6 percent unemployment rate might have something to do with that.
Arizona is moving into the high tourism season as the weather cools. Yet the economic downturn has forced hospitality firms to monitor staffing levels, Rosenberg said.
The mantra in the corporate world has been to do more with less. The same may be true for the tourism industry.
"It's a refreshment period," Rosenberg said. "That's good for business and probably the right thing to do for any business every year."
