The work force at Aegis Communications Group should double by the end of the year.
Recruitment is under way for 300 new jobs at Aegis, said Bruce Ives, vice president and general manager.
"We are doubling our program by using the existing capacity we have in Joplin," he said. "We are hiring right now."
Ives said 200 of the jobs are connected to a prescription-drug company that will take orders and serve clients who enroll in the Medicare Part D prescription drug program. That federal program launches nationally Jan. 1.
"There is the prospect for additional jobs," Ives said. "That will depend on how well we execute it and whether our client is happy with our services."
In addition, the company is hiring 100 people in connection with a financial-services account for an existing client.
Ives said the company does not normally disclose who its clients are.
The addition of the Medicare account to its lineup and the expansion of an existing financial-services account are strengthening the company's portfolio and providing diversity in terms of jobs for employees, Ives said.
"We are mostly in sales now," he said. "We are adding inbound customer service. Someone might not want to work in sales, but would in customer service."
The positions in sales are linked to a company that sells extended automobile warranties.
Aegis, in Joplin since 1998, operates in the former Sears building at Eastmoreland Plaza on East Seventh Street. The company provides telecommunications-based marketing, customer-service and call-center management services.
