INDIANTOWN, FL - The Palm Beach Post is reporting that Florida Power & Light plans to hire around one thousand workers to help assemble a new solar power plant in Martin County, about 140 miles southeast of Orlando. Salaries will range from $9 to $20 an hour.
Called the Martin Next Generation Solar Energy Center, the plant will be the largest solar plant outside of California and the first hybrid solar facility in the world to connect to existing combined-cycle power plant.
Construction was expected to begin in late 2008 with completion in 2010. According ot FPL's website, the 75 megawatt solar thermal facility will produce enough powers to serve nearly 26,000 people, or roughly 11,000 homes.
The technology uses approximately 180,000 mirrors over about 500 acres that reflect the sunlight onto receivers that heat up a liquid. This heated liquid is used to make steam that produces electricity. Because solar power can only be generated when the sun is up, this project will only
