Automotive Components needs workers to continue production
October 20, 2006
Due to the large number of people taking buyouts, Automotive Components Holdings LLC will need temporary workers to sustain production at some plants until they are closed or sold, including those in Milan, Saline and Ypsilanti, company officials said.
Workers at the Saline plant were asked to refer temporary workers to the company this week. ACH will begin the process of testing potential new employees on Monday, spokeswoman Della DiPietro said. A physical exam and drug test will be required as part of the employment process. People interested in applying for a temporary job may call the Michigan Works office in Ypsilanti, at 800-285-WORKS.
ACH is a Ford-managed holding company created a year ago when Ford agreed to take 23 facilities from struggling supplier Visteon. ACH is running 14 facilities and six business properties until they are sold or closed, including the local plants. Ypsilanti is the only plant that has been slated to close thus far.
According to documents given to union workers at the Saline ACH plant this week, the temporary workers will be hired as Visteon hourly workers leased to ACH, starting at $14 an hour. The workers will not accumulate seniority.
Today is the last day workers at ACH facilities may accept a buyout. More than 400 of 1,400 at the Saline plant had opted for a buyout as of late Thursday, according to union officials.
