Businesses Hiring Teens Can Get $1,200 Tax Credit

Jacksonville Business Journal

May 1, 2008

Northeast Florida businesses can receive up to $1,200 in federal tax credit for each local Duval County teenager it employs this summer.

Teens must be at least 16 but not 18 when hired and must work between May 1 and Sept. 15, according to the requirements of the Summer Youth Mentoring and Employment Initiative program. There is no limit on how many teens employers can hire to receive the tax credits.

Although mentoring teens is not required to receive tax credits, businesses are encouraged to share work culture values and potential pathways to future employment.

The federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit program is implemented in Florida by the state Agency for Workforce Innovation, Workforce Florida Inc., and the South Florida Workforce Board and Worksource.
