In an effort to increase staffing in the states of Michigan and Ohio, the United States Border Patrol is now accepting applications from qualified persons who desire to become a Border Patrol Agent and live and work in those states.
Throughout the history of the Border Patrol, newly hired agents were required to begin their career along the southwest border with Mexico. Beginning on Jan. 26 interested applicants will be able to apply directly for a position with the Detroit Sector Border Patrol.
The U.S. Border Patrol is implementing a program known as the Northern Border Intern Program to increase northern border staffing nationwide. Under the Northern Border Intern Program, interns will attend the Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, complete field training and post-academy programs on the southwest border and return to Michigan to complete their Border Patrol probationary period.
Applicants may apply on-line at USAJobs.gov beginning January 26, 2009. For more information about the Border Patrol, applicants may go to www.BorderPatrol.gov.
Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, under 40 years of age, and be able to successfully complete a rigorous screening process, which includes a written examination, structured interview, language aptitude or Spanish language proficiency test, medical examination and drug test, a physical fitness test, as well as a background investigation.
