OLD TOWN, ME -- The new owner of the former Georgia-Pacific paper mill in Old Town has begun hiring workers who are getting the property's biomass boiler up and running.

The boiler hasn't been in operation since shortly after Georgia-Pacific shut down the mill last March and put 450 people out of work.

The mill's new owner, Red Shield Environmental LLC, has been hiring former Georgia-Pacific employees as it gets the property back into shape.

Red Shield LLC is partnering with three other companies. Tamarack Energy intends to team up with Red Shield to produce renewable energy.

Other tenants include a maker of home heating and cooling products and a manufacturer of pressure-sensitive labels.
