Bad Hiring Practices At DCFMiami Herald
December 24, 2006
A few weeks ago, Luci Hadi resigned as head of the Department of Children & Families. This was not a surprise to me.
Many years ago, when the agency was still called Health and Rehabilitative Services, I applied for a position for which I was well qualified.
After getting no response, I went to the Perrine office to talk to the person in charge. She told me that there were several positions that were not filled because the main office kept sending unqualified, but politically connected, people who must be kept for some time before being let go.
Successful private corporations avoid promoting ''yes'' people, but the government bureaucracy still is doing it. It is government's responsibility to be sure that qualified persons are promoted to responsible positions, it is the only way to have the community well served.
